Sir Gregor MacGregor, historical promoter of Poyais and self-styled Cazique, sits at the center of the Poyais story: founder mythology, official confidence, historical caution, and modern satire.
In the modern Visit Poyais voice, MacGregor is presented as the Founding Cazique of Poyais, Father of National Confidence, and permanent patron of official presentation. The tone is intentionally ceremonial; the project’s footer and FAQ keep the real-world status clear.
Historically, MacGregor promoted Poyais through titles, offices, maps, documents, banknotes, and settlement literature. The country did not exist as represented, making the episode a lasting study in branding, trust, speculation, and institutional appearance.
The modern MacGregor Series collector notes place the Cazique on the 20 PYD note as a museum-shop design, not a real currency instrument.
